Pearson Fuels

In 1997 the Ford Motor Company developed 14 different alternative fuel vehicles. This inspired Pearson Ford, the long time El Cajon Boulevard automotive dealership, to be ahead of the curve. It appeared very logical that if the country is developing alternative fuel cars, then alternative fuel stations must expand simultaneously. Thus came Pearson Fuels, which is owned by Pearson Ford and is located within the Regional Transportation Center (RTC) on El Cajon Boulevard at the I-15. Along with being a forerunner in the alternative fuels arena, the RTC also made its mark on the Boulevard by being the first major private investment adjacent to the new Mid-City transit node, the Boulevard transit plaza. The project includes the fuel facility (the only one like it in Southern California), leasable office space, and the pioneering Eco Center.

Now, fast forward ten years. Pearson Fuels still remains the only public fueling station in California to offer ethanol fuel as well as the only station in the world to offer nine fueling options including ethanol, bio-diesel, and natural gas along with an electric charging facility.

Build it and they will come seemed logical, but they didn't come. Fortunately, Pearson Fuel survived the downturn and now our country has revamped its enthusiasm for being oil independent and environmentally conscience. It is likely that while gas prices are going up and state initiatives are being made to build more alternative fuel stations and alternative cars, we are likely to witness a phenomenal evolution in automotive travel.

The owners of Pearson Ford not only opened the most innovative fueling station in the world, but also with a 1.4 million dollar investment founded a non profit organization called the San Diego Environmental Foundation. The foundation's mission is to educate the public about alternative fuels, specifically our youth, who have yet to develop commuting habits.

In the fall of 2004, the Eco Center for Alternative Fuel Education began field trips welcoming all 4th-7th grade students throughout San Diego County, emphasizing the future of alternative fueling and the future of alternative fuel stations. The El Cajon Boulevard Business Improvement Association commends Pearson Fuels and proudly selects them as the 2007 business of the year.
