Motorsport Scooters

2009 Business of the Year

When looking for a small business engaged in its local community, it's hard to find a better representative than Motorsport Scooters. Over the past 20 years, this scooter dealership and parts supplier has grown from a small retail store serving the Vespa community into one of the premier brands for scooter supplies in the United States. Now known as the country's most respected source for scooter parts, Motorsport Scooters' expansion has come without a compromise to its commitment to quality customer relationships.

These relationships begin with the friendly atmosphere of the scooter shop, where most customers are greeted by their first names as they walk through the door. New customers are treated in a similar way, and every visitor is sure to be offered whatever food happens to be at the shop the day of his or her visit.

Moreover, with its unparalleled staff expertise, Motorsport Scooters daily offers technical advice over the phone, in the store, and via their website, scooterwest.com. Owner Alex Cohn describes this service as “good old-fashioned know how, for free.” The shop also frequently holds local rides and events featuring free food, music, raffles and scavenger hunts.

Outside of serving scooterists, Motorsport is active in the broader San Diego community as well. Every year they organize a Christmas event called the “Scooter Charity Toy Run,” in which employees and volunteers gather donations of toys, clothes, and other items for the children who live at the San Diego Center for Children. Outside of this event, the largest organized by the shop, Motorsport Scooters also donates one brand new scooter every year to the Children's Center to be auctioned off in their annual fundraising event.
No stranger to nonprofits that support the community, Alex Cohn sits on the board for the Boulevard, the nonprofit Business Improvement Association for El Cajon Boulevard. Motorsport also donates to other charities, most recently sponsoring a stone at Stepping Stones, an alcohol and drug treatment facility in San Diego.

Dedicated to all things scootering, the owner and employees at Motorsport Scooters manage to have fun and stay positive while enjoying their passion. Indeed, the product itself is a worthy cause: scooters use less gas than cars, have fewer emissions, cut parking clogs and traffic congestion, and generally use up fewer resources than cars and trucks. All in all, with a knowledgeable and friendly staff and a great community attitude, Motorsport Scooters is the only place to go for a scooter. In fact, Motorsport Scooters is always looking to recruit new riders in their race to “Save the World One Scooter at a Time.”
