United Cerebral Palsy Thrift Store

The United Cerebral Palsy Thrift Store on El Cajon Boulevard is not to be missed. The first floor is very well organized, even color categorized, and the second floor, or the "boutique," is a female's discount haven. The clothes look brand new, and in fact, most of them are. The only catch is that UCP is required to cut the tags. The store carries men's, women's, and children's clothing along with sporting goods, household items, electronics, furniture and seasonal goods. It's no wonder that the store was crowded on a Tuesday morning.

United Cerebral Palsy's mission is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people affected by cerebral palsy and other disabilities. UCP in San Diego County spends approximately 85% of its total income on community programs and services.

Originally, the thrift store was managed by Children's Hospital, who graciously gifted four stores and the inventory to UCP. Along with the proceeds from their retail locations, UCP is funded by the Department of Developmental Services, Department of Rehabilitation, United Way, grants, foundations and private donations. Speaking of private donations, the store accepts walk-in donations between 8 am - 3:30 pm Monday thru Friday, or you can schedule a pick-up by calling 1-888-827-0771.
